Bliss Polish Velvet Rope Swatch and Review

Before I get started on today's polish, I have something really important to say: Alzheimer's is real and is no joke. (If you haven't watched Seth Rogen's bit on this disease, please watch as he says it in a way that be understood how drastic and scary it is.) It affected my family in a way that I cannot even scrape the surface on without getting too emotional. Raphaelle from Digital Nails is currently raising funds to bring awareness and research to hopefully find an end to this disease. As an incentive, she is creating a custom nail polish to those who donate $35+ and send her an email (raphyax at gmail dot com) or show her the screenshot of the donation. (Although, fellow Canadians, we will have to chip in for shipping, mmmmkay?) You can donate here. Two days left! That's really awesome - go Raphaelle!!!!

OK onto today's polish - we are continuing the week with Bliss Polish and today I have Velvet Rope. (Remember, you can visit the shop here. You can also follow Bliss Polish on their Facebook page for more updates.

Now Velvet Rope is a little more different from the jellies I've been highlighting this week... Let's see if you can spot the difference!

From Bliss Polish: "A vivid purple with various flakies."

Well if you didn't spot the difference - this one is different because it has little flakes rather than a glitter mix. It's still a really lovely jelly. Perfect on its own or as an undie! Application was great and it had a nice natural shine to it too. Here's my swatch in two coats:

And for funsies, I added some Finger Paints Twisted on top. Kind of reminds me of one of my unicorns - Cult Nails Unicorn Puke / Clarivoyant - but not quite. Still might do the trick in the meantime!

Really love Velvet Rope, especially with the rainbow flakes of Finger Paints Twisted! I can definitely see this polish used as an all-season - could be fitting for summers as well as the winter!

What do you think of Bliss Polish Velvet Rope? Do you think I did an OK job at emulating the infamous Unicorn Puke?

Full disclosure: This sample was provided for an unbiased review.

  1. first, to get alzheimer's sadness out of the way: my dad's mom had it. she was a wonderful woman and i wish i had gotten to know her better, because she died when i was pretty young. i remember when she was first starting to decline, she came to visit us and my mom was making her tea. she noticed my grandma seemed a little confused and asked, "do you remember who i am?" and my grandma took her hand and said, "i'm not sure, but you seem like a very nice lady." alzheimer's is terrible, terrible, terrible, the worst. it terrifies me that it took the woman that she was -- a teacher, a wife, a mother of six, an incredible cook, an avid reader -- and reduced her to a person who couldn't even recognize her own family. i think it's a great idea to combine an amazing cause with nail polish, and your friend is really generous to offer custom polishes for such a small donation. it's awesome that she's met her initial goal; i hope she raises a lot more in the last two days!

aaaand NON-SADNESS RELATED: i've reeeeally enjoyed bliss polish week so far! all the jellies are awesome, and honestly, this one is probably my favorite. i love the look of the pastel/glitter jellies you've posted so far (especially sailing!) but this is, hands-down, my favorite kind of purple. AND THOSE FLAKIES, AND MATTE. i could die.

    1. I saw an artist rendition of what Alzheimer's does to a person even over the span of 8 years. The difference between the first year and the second year are even staggering. It really breaks my heart. I'm sorry to hear about your grandmother - the same sort of thing happened with my grandfather and I can completely emphasize. Even worse, there's a part of me that wishes they'd appreciate his liveliness - I was a pieceofshit teenager. And then by the time I was done with being a stupidprickofachild, I was too late.

I'm glad that you liked Bliss Polish week - I know this is so delayed but Bliss Polish is doing a giveaway on IG!

  3. Even though this one still feels jelly, it does look more opaque than the others. It's a beautiful polish too though.

    1. It's definitely more opaque than the others - it's very much a deep violet and I think there's only so mush squishiness a shade like this can take before it isn't violet anymore! :)

  4. Is it just me or has anyone never seen a purple velvet rope in real life? All I've seen are red... why are all the Velvet Rope polishes purple??
