OPI Fly Swatch and Review (Bonus: Hard Candy Black Tie Optional)

Hey guys! End of the week here for me in ye olde land of nails, but seriously it doesn't slow down. Hopefully all of you are keeping busy, or hey, if you're relaxing - colour me jealous! Yesterday I shared a swatch from OPI that I wasn't too happy about so today I'm sharing one I am totally all over.

Today I've got OPI Fly, which is from the Nicki Minaj collection from early 2012. Fly is a medium teal creme, which looks close to a DAVIDsTEA teal but not quite perfect! Formula and application wise, this one is flawless - a self levelling creme that goes on for full opacity in two coats. It finishes quite glossy on its own. Here's my swatch in two coats, sans top coat:

And for funsies, here's one of my favourite black and white glitter combinations - here's Hard Candy Black Tie Optional:

I totally love OPI Fly! I haven't seen it available as widely as before but I have spotted it on sale, and in some stores with quite the backstock. Do you dig Fly? Do you think that it suits Nicki Minaj's style?

  1. This is a beautiful colour with a great finish on its own! And it looks great with that glitter!

I need to experiment when I swatch cremes; play with glitter toppers and decals and such, cause there's just not enough time to do them all separately!

Have a great weekend! I got no plans this weekend, just a whole lotta relaxin' and paintin' my nailz! :)

    1. That's what I end up doing, lol - I use toppers on my creme reviews and then have a separate post for the topper with all the different cremes I've used underneath, hahaha. It's kind of like cheating but oh well. :)

  2. My weekend will consist of baking rainbow cupcakes and some lemon flavored sugar cookies. Its gonna smell awesome at the house MmMmMmMm....

I like this teal - I am not sure if I have this tone of teal in my stash. How does it compare to the Jordana one you put up a little while ago?

When I think of Nicki Minaj I think of hideous hair and bright pink lipstick. This teal is tame by her standards but very office friendly and fun at the same time. The glitter topper was a nice touch. Black and white glitter looks so nice over crèmes. I've used Maybelline Cleraly Spotted over a red crème for my mom in law and she says that she was getting compliments left and right :)

    1. I like Fly a whole lot more than Jordana Boy Oh Boy. BOB was very prone to staining, even after a mere 5 minutes of wear and it was thicker on the application.

I am ashamed to say it but Nicki Minaj actually grew on me. Only because I discovered "Nicki Minaj slow" - her songs are so much better slowed down, who woulda thought!
