Fancy Nail Lacquer by Rainbow Honey Fancy Black Swatch and Review

There are few times where I can be a show off and the time is usually rare... However... I just polished off and delivered 3 wedding/engagement sets in 2 days. Yep. Dirt. Shoulder. Off. Gettin' that dirt off the shoulder! Anyway so here I am, just about to start a few days of overtime but I am here. Kind of. I'm trying. I miss you guys. Today I haven "Fancy Nail Lacquer by Rainbow Honey" and really it's just Rainbow Honey polish, I am not going to beat around the bush or anything. I am not sure how this collaboration came about but my best guess is that Fancy contracted Rainbow Honey to produce some polish for them as a part of their distribution offerings. Again, not confirming that - it's just my best guess.

So already we're seeing some pretty signature stuff from Rainbow Honey. The signature well-packaged box. The well produced photograph, printed on high quality paper. Great graphic design, great package. Rainbow Honey event included one of their own branded cuticle sticks.

Pretty good stuff, am I right? So I am going to share Fancy Black first with you guys mostly because I just realized I rarely show off any reds so I might as well save that one for the end of the week! Fancy Nail Lacquer by Rainbow Honey Fancy Black is a shimmery black. Formula wise it was pretty good - it applied well and I got full opacity in two coats. The shimmer is just right - not too prominent and not too subtle. Here's my swatch in two coats with no top coat:

And as always for funsies, what does it look like with a glitter? Here's some Nubar White Polka Dots. I don't think they're the best pairing - I'll be honest but with a shimmery black like this, I would just leave it on its own:

So call me biased but I think it's kind of weird that it's a Rainbow Honey polish with a different name on it. I guess I am a little biased. OK, VERY biased. The thing with all these other distributors is that they just charge SO much for shipping to Canada. It's so hard to be a fan of that. I really don't care for these partnerships but again, I understand why indie companies would want to. Sometimes there's a lot of big fish in the sea and you've got to keep up!

As a die hard Rainbow Honey fan, I had to get them anyway. I asked my friend in the states to buy them all (because US customers get free or $5 shipping while it costs $40 to ship to Canada, yeah that makes sense) but I don't find Fancy Black to be particularly unique or a "must have". It's definitely a polish collector's item. It's great and pretty and I really like it but I just can't justify the actual cost if I didn't have my friend in the states to help ship them to me.

What do you think of Fancy Black? Does your favourite indie company work with any type of "subscription" based or selected consumer online catalogues? Which ones are your favourite? Are there any that don't charge a gargantuan fee when shipping to Canada?

  1. Rainbow Honey's packaging is seriously fantastic. I'm such a dork for pretty boxes, I'd probably keep all of them!

The shipping to Canada is really ridic, I don't get why it has to be 9 times more expensive xD I thought shipping costs to Europe sucked!

  2. Yeah the Canadian shipping is ridiculous but I didn't find these so special even when they came out that I thought I was really missing out. But it is an American-based company so I can't fault it for having US-based collaborations, but I do love like with Fab when they then put them on their website afterwards so other people get a shot at it :)

  3. Oh Rainbow Honey, your packaging is always so well thought out!

It's a beautiful polish, but I agree with you that it's nothing special or different. It looks like it would be a good base for galaxy nails though. I like it with the glitter topper as well, it just gives it extra sparkle. :)

That Nubar White Polka Dots looks a lot like OPI Pirouette My Whistle, which I currently have on and will be posting this weekend. :)

I agree that it does look weird to see RH with a different name on the bottle. Good thing you could get it through your friend cause that $40 shipping cost is just plain ridiculous. Seriously, where did they come up with that?!?

  5. Oh but they do send to Canada (even if the shipping is very high) For Sweden I have to find other retailers to buy their pretty polishes :D

I love that shimmer. Its' a beautiful pairing with the White polka dots :)
