NYC New York Color Tudor City Teal vs. Essie Turquoise and Caicos Comparison Swatch and Review

It's Friday, I'm groggy and I am eating Halloween Oreos. That sums up my life right now, haha. I am thinking about going to some Pokemon events tonight and tomorrow but I guess we'll see how that goes. In the meantime, I have a polish comparison post. Meet our contenders: New York Color Tudor City Teal vs. Essie Turquoise and Caicos. Tudor City Teal usually retails at Wal-Mart for $1.49 and Turquoise and Caicos can be found anywhere from $7.99 to $13.99 depending on where you buy your Essie polish.

So here's a quick look at the bottles:

You can see that Tudor City Teal is the slightest bit more richer or saturated than Turquoise and Caicos. Tudor City Teal looks a little more blue and Turquoise and Caicos is a bit more green. I would say that they are still both the same amount of dusty, though.

I will say this off the bat but I hate the formula for Essie Turquoise and Caicos. It's so awful. It's patchy and uneven and really thin for what it's supposed to be. Tudor City Teal on the other hand applies very nicely and smooth. Here's a check-in at one coat:

At two coats, Tudor City Teal is pretty much good to go whereas Turquoise and Caicos could use another coat. Here's two coats with no top coat:

Overall I think they're similar enough to not require having both of them in your collection. If I had to pick one, I would definitely go with New York Color Tudor City Teal because not only is it far cheaper in price, but the formula is just so much better.

What do you think of these two? Do you think they're similar enough? Is there one you prefer over the other?

  1. If I had both in my stash and had to get rid of one, I'd keep the Essie, since I like the bottle better. I think the NYC would definitely scratch the itch for that kind of green if I had none and wanted one.

  2. I don't have either but the NYC one definitely looks better, I generally like Essie but eek on that formula. I'd do 3 coats with either though because I hate VNL.

  3. I've always had issues with Essie's formulas. If I didn't already have T&C I would definitely go buy the NYC one, it's just a better deal all around. I agree that even though the colours aren't the exact same, they are close enough to not need both. I don't anyway.

  4. Since I have Rainbow Honey on the brain today-- could you do a basic comparison with the Yokai and the Space polishes? Even bottle shots would help. It looks like Leonids and Oni are cousins, so too Orionids and Kawako.

  5. Wow, quite surprising that the NYC performs better! I didn't expect that. Good to know.

  6. I love these kinds of colors and I do have Turquoise and Caicos (which I still haven't worn yet :D ) That formula sounds so awful so now I want to get the NYC one :D!

  7. Just got my hands on some Tudor City Teal at CVS. All NYC cosmetics were buy one get one half off and since one bottle retails for $0.99 I ended up getting the teal color for $0.49. Quite the bargain. I've always been pleased with NYC, especially for the price but this one really blew me away. It applies perfectly, the color shines without a topcoat and the overall it's gorgeous!
