Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure White Out Swatch and Review

Oh hey guys it's that special time of the week where we explore and discover polishes that are found for $5 or less! So this one isn't a stranger to Claw of Cthulhu, but is to Cheap Polish Tuesday. Today I have a Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure which I found in the discount bin at Shoppers Drug Mart for $5. Still a little on the pricey end but definitely not $9, which is the usual price for these ones.

Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure White Out is a white creme, that is actually very surprisingly a limited edition polish. I was hoping to find something that could keep up with OPI White Alpine but unfortunately this is not it. While it still applies OK, it still requires two and an extra ha;f coat for coverage of the patches. It applies smoothly, but still tends to be a bit patchy. Here's my swatch of Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure White Out in two and a half coats with no top coat:

And for funsies and unfortunately this did not go as planned - I sponged some OPI You Don't Know Jacques! on my tips. I guess I underestimated the density of the formula and instead of looking like a subtle grey gradient, it looked like I dipped my finger tips in dirt. LOL SO BAD. So I went along with it and even applied some OPI Matte Top Coat:

It was so bad I had to remove it right away. I didn't bother keeping this one for longer than 5 minutes. Yikes.

What do you consider to be your ideal white polish? Would two and a half coats suffice for you? Have you ever created some serious disaster nail art that you had to remove ASAP?

  1. I used to do this thing to my nails that my boyfriend referred to as "a gravediggers manicure", where I'd do messy black or burgundy french tips. I guess this would qualify as one, haha.

I'm still looking for a good white polish! I find it so frustrating that quite a few traffic to my blog comes from the keywords 'white polish' and I don't even have a proper one?

    1. I still really like OPI White Alpine even though all white polishes have mixed reviews. Never really a general agreeance. I heard this one indie company made a good white polish but I don't support their company for their rude customer interactions. Ah well.

  2. At Walgreens there was a sale on L'oreal make up and I picked up "I Will". Its one of the thinner white polishes I've worked with. Some whites are very goopey or thick. This was very smooth application, a bit patchy on the first coat, but it levels out easily.. I used 3 thin coats but you're good with 2 regular coats if applied correctly. Sinful Colors "Snow Me White" applies great.. I use it for almost all my nail art. Essie "Marshmallow" is one of my favorite colors but it takes a bit achieve opacity and when I don't want that stark white, this is a fluffy soft version of white.
I also have "my boyfriend scales walls" from OPI but have not used it yet. I will soon.
My experience with the Sally Hansen complete line is that I have to use base coat. It shows my ridges. And I find it to be thick, one coat type of deal.

    1. I've seen Essie Marshmallow and I am so tempted to pick it up! I only have tried two of the Complete Manicure collection and I don't find it to be complete at all - like you said - definitely base coat is needed.

  3. I love whites and I'm always looking for a new "perfect" white. I love OPI - My Boyfriend scales walls (when it comes to cremes). I would love to find the one coat white but I'm OK with two coats. Two and a half coats? Hm... Maybe that's OK :D

  4. That one was in the clearance bin at my Shoppers as well, but I hadn't read any reviews on it (yet) so I left it there. I'm still trying to find a good white myself. I have OPI Alpine Snow too, but I find it very streaky and always need 3 coats for full coverage. I actually have 4 white polishes now, I'll be doing a comparison at some point, but I find them all streaky and need 3 coats for all. :(

I'm glad you showed your nail art! They don't always turn out the way we imagined in our head and it's nice to know it happens to others too. :)

    1. Man so inconsistent. I LOVE White Alpine! I guess everyone applies differently too. I only ever need 2 coats for it. It's OK to have multiple whites because it's always needed for nail art!!!

LOL for some reason it got a decent showing of Likes on Facebook! I am SO confused haha!

  5. It looks like you dipped your nails in something nasty ;-) I don't have any white nail polish myself.

    1. I am surprised you don't have any white polish! But I guess I would guess that you have every shade of eye make up too, :3
