Joe Fresh Turquoise Swatch

It's Cheap Polish Tuesday, where we explore nail polish found in stores (or on sale) for $5 or less! Today I've got a bottle of Turquoise by Joe Fresh, which is an in-house clothing and beauty brand for Superstore, a grocery chain here in Canada. These little 6ml guys are sold for $4 each, or 3 for $10.

I guess I am the lone wolf in this but I prefer shorter brushes for application. I've read many reviews that say their brushes are too short. I feel like my nails are at a decent length so perhaps I apply my nail polish differently from most? Joe Fresh polishes have short brushes. The formula went on smoothly and evenly after two coats and my swatch shows Joe Fresh Turquoise with no top coat:

Joe Fresh Turquoise

I haven't read anywhere about Joe Fresh nail polishes being 3-free or non-toxic, or anything like that so I am going to assume that these polishes are not 3-free. Now if we look at the math, you can find OPI nail polish anywhere between $8 and $11. Each OPI bottle is typically 15ml. Essentially, Joe Fresh nail polish cost THE SAME as OPI! I'm not knocking Joe Fresh too much but as an OPI fangirl, I would rather spend the money on a high quality polish that is 3-free. I will buy smaller nail polish like these for smaller quantities possibly for the use of nail art, especially if I need more of a colour. It's great when you are on a budget and you'd rather have more colours for the price of one!

EDIT (June 25th, 2013): I must have forgotten to edit this entry but I'd like to confirm that Joe Fresh polishes ARE 3 FREE! That is all.

  1. This is a nice colour! I agree that when you count the quantity vs price these end up being as much as OPI. But I have to say that I LOVE Joe Fresh's formulas, I have not been disappointed yet. All the ones I've tried come out even and streak free, however many coats I put - even the jelly ones, which I can't say for other jellies I've tried so far.

    1. The formulas are always so good! I've never been disappointed with Joe Fresh formula. I was thinking about buying a couple more for some nail art I really want to try. When you need a few blobs of like, a muddy green (for example lol), it's way better to get it from Joe Fresh rather than OPI. I love the jelly that you posted a little while ago, I've been thinking about picking it up next time I pick up some almond milk! (Had to go with coconut milk last time and it was good but not the same!!

  2. I really love this colour, but it's shocking to realize that volume-wise it's not any cheaper than OPI. Makes you rethink cheap polish sometimes!

    1. I think it's definitely a matter of colour preference. I think if I really love a colour, I'd go all out and buy the OPI but if it's for something I'll wear once or just for the sake of having a colour, I'd go Joe Fresh - easily too - I've never been disappointed by their formulas. (I am surprised too, haha!)

  3. Joe Fresh polishes ARE 3 Free. It seems it was a very deliberate choice to offer better product in smaller bottles for a medium price-per-mL pricepoint (low per-bottle pricepoint). The logic being many people do not finish a whole bottle of polish (marketing to grocery-shoppers and enthusiasts with too many bottles to ever finish), so it comes down to one bottle of Essie ($9.99 at Superstore) or three bottles of different colours of Joe Fresh ($9.99 at Superstore).

    1. Oooh yes! I forgot to edit my post but I discovered not too long after I posted this that you're right - they are 3 free! (I'll edit my post now, whoops - I forgot to go back and edit.) Probably a pretty smart move by Superstore - I would definitely pick up 3 bottles of Joe Fresh polish over 1 bottle of Essie any day. (I am actually not a fan of Essie to begin with though....)
