Illamasqua Mottle Swatch and Review

I can't stop listening to Marina and the Diamonds, which is probably good because I was going back to a 90s, early 2000s trance phase again (ATB, Sash, Alice Deejay). Yikes. Anyway, check out Primadonna or How to Be A Heartbreaker. Just as a warning, I don't think you'll fall in love with her singing right away - definitely grows on you though.

Anyway, it's Claw of Cthulhu's Friday - last post of the week until we meet again, I figured I'd end it with one of my most coveted polishes that my boyfriend's little sister was kind enough to lend to me. (Man, if I owned this polish, I'd never let it out of my sight, ha!) Here's Illamasqua Mottle! I started seeing this polish on Instagram, and totally fell in love with it. My first thought? MINT CHOOCOLATE CHIP ICE CREAM!

Illamasqua Mottle Swatch

That's right, Illamasqua Mottle is a green mint pastel creme jelly with solid black hex and micro glitter. The formula is very milky and I had to use two and a half coats for full coverage. (The last half coat would be for patch maintenance and fixing overall coverage.) It's not too much hassle to get full coverage as the formula needs to be this way to have the specks peek out through each of the layers. For the most part, the glitters lay flat, but to get rid of any glitter texture, I used a single coat of Seche Vite over top.

This was my first experience with an Illamasqua polish and I just LOVE the bottle. The bottle is so gorgeous. I love how all the glitters are pressed up on the side. I wore this for about three days and on the third day, I added Essie Matte About You top coat just to see what it would look like. At this point, there was some wear on the glitters, as well as my nails breaking (this is the last polish I got to wear with this length):

I love this polish and I would have loved to use a fresh bottle for myself but the price tag on Illamasqua is fairly high to the average consumer at $18 at Sephora in Canada. I may have to skip out for myself and try and emulate something similar with Nubar Black Polka Dot, especially now that I am on an Extreme Low Buy pledge. For those who are not on a No Buy and don't mind forking out the cash, I think these Illamasqua (I swear I have to look up how to spell their name every time, haha!) are worth it - I love the bottles, the speckled collection is awesome, and their other polishes have always received great reviews from fellow bloggers and Instagram users alike.

I can only hope I can get my hands on some more of their polishes! Enjoy your weekends, guys.

Also, I think I might do one of those giveaway things but I am waiting for my followers to build up, so if you wanna help me push me to actually do it, give me a Like/Follow/Stalk at any of the platforms in the link above. I'll probably do a 1K giveaway on Instagram. ;)

  2. Ooo this is beauuutiful!
I don't own any Illamasqua, but it's because of the price. I just can't get myself to spill that much money on 1 bottle. I have, a few rare times, but it needs to be uber special for me to do it.

    1. Icing? I've never heard of that brand! I'll def have to keep an eye out for it. Polish is always expensive in Canada unfortunately. :( We never have the good sales like you guys do!

    2. The store Icing is the grown up version of Claire's (the store in the malls that usually looks like there was an explosion of pink and purple -they sell jewelry and hair accessories). They have a pretty good selection of glitters and neons. In the clearance section I found color changing. I *think* there are stores in Canada because when I purchase jewelry from there its got US and Canada prices.

    3. You are so awesome! I went to Icing yesterday and picked up the Chocolate Chip ones. There were two and I believe it was Buy One, Get One Half Off or something. Thanks so much for the tip! I'll post soon. :)
