Welcomes to Tuesday - Cheap Polish Tuesday to be exact - we're in the middle of Rainbow Honey FAB Summer Set feature week but that's OK, WE'LL DO IT LIVE! We're doing it anyway: exploring cheap polishes found for regular price or on sale for $5 or less! Today I've got Revlon Trendy, from the Bubblegum Days Urban Nights spring collection for this year! I found this at Wal-Mart for approximately $3-$4. (Sometimes I can't remember, but it's in that range.)
Revlon Trendy is a teal creme. Originally I picked this up because I am hunting for the perfect DAVIDsTEA teal but this one is not up to snuff! I'll show you my findings in another post, another day. Although I have a severe dislike for Revlon formulas, Trendy ain't so bad - it applied smoothly and covered fully within two coats! My swatch is two coats, with no top coat:
So back to the reason why I bought this - compared to the DAVIDsTEA teal, this is the slightest tad too blue and a little dark. The hunt continues! If you don't own a teal creme and are on a budget, I would say that Revlon Trendy is pretty decent! It wasn't the usual sticky, long drying formula that I am used to from Revlon. Colour me happy.
And of course, what better way to spice up some cheap polish than with Rainbow Honey? Last time I did it with Sally Hansen with Soul Gem - so here's Revlon Trendy with Rainbow Honey Costa Del Sol, which is sold as a part of the FAB Summer Set.
Yeah buddy, doesn't that look gorgeous? I love it.
Just to kick it up a notch even more, here it is using Revlon Matte Top Coat, just keeping in the theme of Cheap Polish Tuesday!
I am absolutely loving the look of this in matte! All the gold flakies really come into the spotlight, all for a very affordable look. Revlon Trendy is a definite hit for me and is an awesome base colour for glitter toppers.

This combo is beautiful, and a matte finish for glitters always looks great!
ReplyDeleteMy next nail post will be a cream team polish (look for it this weekend), but I don't think it's close to DAVIDsTEA teal though.
I always look out for your posts my lady! I love em to bits! I usually don't get to any blogs over the weekend though - I make it mandatory to do as much of it offline since I am online wayy too much during the week hehe.
DeleteTeals, pastel turquoises, aquas - I seriously can't get enough of them. Will we ever see something different on this blog? LOL.
I love the matte version too! Gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteMan I just can't get enough of glitters and matte top coats - I hope it doesn't become boring to anyone who reads this blog, haha!
DeleteIt looks so incredible in combination with that top coat! Loooove it :-)
ReplyDeleteMatte top coat is sooooo my thing right now, ahhhhh! :D :D
DeleteI love this! I've been trying out cheapies lately because I can't always afford to keep buying Essie for every basic color I need to go under my glitters. I'm loving Maybelline's Color Show for $3. I typically hate Revlon's formula, too, and they retail for $5.50 here. For fifty cents more, I can grab an Essie, so I'd not even bother with Revlon.
ReplyDeleteI would never pay more than $5 for Revlon. Generally I have been really unimpressed with their formula so I totally hear you out there. I still haven't tried Maybelline's Color Show but I might pick something up if I see it catch my eye - they are a decent price here too! :3
DeleteI really liked the Color Show I recently wore. I also just tried Sally Hansen's Insta-Dri, color Mint Sprint. Look around for it because I'm pretty sure it's David's Tea teal. I'm in love with it! It cost $3 or $4, I think.
DeleteI actually have Sally Hansen's Insta-Dri Mint Spirit! (Plug: http://clawofcthulhu.blogspot.ca/2013/05/sally-hansen-insta-dri-mint-spirit.html) It's what I wore Soul Gem over for the first time. :D I am actually going to be receiving a real DAVIDsTEA paint swatch so I'll be doing a comparison of all my teals and turquoises soon! I love Mint Spirit though - super fast application and dry time. I am so impressed.
DeleteFrom what I remember, Mint Spirit is a tad too green but it's definitely close enough to those who aren't obsessing over the colour, hehe.
