EDIT: Sorry for the late edit, but Fandom Cosmetics just updated me that the Sailor Moon inspired nail polish collection will be called Sailor Senshi and it will be out and available for purchase on their shop on July 8th! With the purchase of the full set, buyers will also receive a free polish called Luna! Hope that helps!
SAILOR MOON NAIL POLISH, YOU SAY?!!?!!11 IN THE NAME OF THE MOON.... I'LL SWATCH FOR YOU! Something like that - welcome to Friday! All cheesy Sailor Moon inspired lines aside, today I'm showing off a polish from none other than Fandom Cosmetics! I've been having a lot of fun putting indie polish BFF duo Annie and Leigh in the spotlight all week, so again, if you haven't heard of these awesome ladies, check out their website and shop here. All their polishes are 3 Free and are inspired by everything rad and nerdly (or geekly, if you want to have that argument).
So here we have Fandom Cosmetics Usagi Tsukino from their currently unnamed Sailor Moon inspired collection. You heard it folks, IT'S THAT FRESH OFF THE PRESS. You can expect this line to be formally announced and sold in the next upcoming weeks. I'm excited, are you? Since there's no official copypasta from the shop, I'll have to muster up one (albeit you won't count on it being as creative or eloquent, damn my technical life, damn you!!!!).... Anyway, Fandom Cosmetics Usagi Tsukino will bring out your inner fighter for love and justice, drawing on notes directly from Super Sailor Moon's uniform. A foundation of lovely white shimmer, medium rose hex and moon glitters; sporting bold solid white, blue and yellow medium circle glitters throughout the mix. I'm pretty into it - there actually doesn't seem to be many polishes that are this obvious about being inspired by Sailor Moon. Just tossing in a bunch of moons doesn't make it a Sailor Moon glitter - GIVE ME MORE! Well, Fandom Cosmetics delivered.
Formula-wise, it's similar to Fandom Cosmetics Rumbelle - it went on very smoothly, there's no issues with fishing for any of the circle or moon glitter, but you may find it beneficial to do one coat, and if necessary, some patching for placement. The circle and moon glitters are a bit thick, so a nice top coat should do the trick to have a nice slick finish.
I'll start with my favourite combination first - here's a jelly sandwiched Fandom Cosmetics Usagi Tsukino with OPI In The Spot-Light Pink:
Here's two and a half coats of Fandom Cosmetics Usagi Tsukino over OPI White Alpine:
I'm prone to say that I much prefer a softer look with Fandom Cosmetics Usagi Tsukino in a jelly sandwich with OPI In The Spot-Light Pink. I think that the contrast may be a bit strong over a plain white, and it would actually benefit the polish by sandwiching, or perhaps layering over a pigmented base colour as opposed to a stark white. I also think that less is more and one and a half coats were substantially more effective than two and a half. My personal opinion, of course! I'm definitely going to wear this again over a different pastel colour.
So if you are interested in some Sailor Moon polishes that really draw from the source, be sure to check out and follow Fandom Cosmetics. If you are interested in seeing more sneak previews from their Sailor Moon inspired nail polish collection, be sure to also check out their Instagram where they've already posted sneak peaks of Sailor Mars and Sailor Jupiter's lacquers! Seeing that I have a Sailor Mars tattoo, I'm definitely going to have to pick up my home girl's polish.
Any fellow moonies out there? What do you think of Fandom Cosmetics' take on sailor senshi polish? How would you wear Usagi Tsukino? Any guesses on what the full collection will be called?
Full disclosure: This sample was provided for an unbiased review.
You find the cutest nail polishes! I love how it looks like confetti on your nails.

I love circle glitter! This is such an amazing one!
ReplyDeleteI am on the circle glitter bandwagon too!
DeleteHmmm, I am not really digging this one, sowwy :-( have a great Sunday!
ReplyDeleteAw that's OK - Different strokes for different folks! :)
DeleteOMG I'm so excited for this collection!! I miss the days of waking up at 6am just to watch Sailor Moon on TV >_< Anyway, I love it with OPI In The Spot-Light Pink. The white is very in your face but if that's what you are going for, it works out great.
ReplyDeleteDid you know that there is going to be a Sailor Moon this year? It was supposed to come out this summer but there's a delay! Bandai is making brand new toys as well. I totally prefer it in a jelly sandwich. I don't like things to be too bold.
DeleteI really like the jelly sandwich, it makes it look so delicate.
ReplyDeleteI used to watch Sailor Moon, but I unfortunately don't remember much about it.
I think it's wayy too much over the white but a jelly sandwich, or even over a different colour will calm it down. I just didn't guess it would be so bold!
DeleteI've never tried a jelly sandwich before but this really works and I can definitely see the Sailor Moon inspiration. I saw some Sailor moon but honestly have never been a fan of animated TV. What a perfect polish for you though! I don't mind the white combo but I do prefer the less is more approach is well considering how large these glitter are. Really neat polish and thanks for the introduction to a new (to me) brand! I actually just made my first indie polish order!!! (Different brand, but can't wait to feature it on my blog :) )

Do you watch any TV? I watched a bunch when I was a kid but I skipped out of TV altogether at the end of elementary school and probably up until maybe a few years ago. I was just obsessed with the Internet and playing guitar at the time lol. (I guess I am still obsessed with the Internet but I have been blogging since I was 12!) Anyway, which indie brand did you end up going with? WAS IT RAINBOW HONEY? Speaking of which, have you seen those space polishes? Yum.
