Welcome to Cheap Polish Tuesday where we explore and adventure into the world of polishes priced at $5 or less! Today we have a brand that is no stranger to Cheap Polish Tuesday - Joe Fresh! So far, we've seen a lot of cool shades and decent formulas from Joe Fresh. Bonus: They are 3 Free! They are found at the Real Canadian Superstore for $4 a pop, or 3 for $10 - definitely a possible danger when picking up your groceries for the week!
Today I've got Joe Fresh Twilight, which I actually picked up in 2011 when I first started getting into polish. It was my first flakie - AW MEMORIES. Joe Fresh Twilight is a sheer black jelly, packed with large flakies, similar to the colour shift of the flakies in Essie Shine of the Times, an orange to green shift. Application wasn't an issue - I love the Joe Fresh bottle and brushes as I am biased towards shorter and wider brushes. Formula wise, it's sheer, requiring three coats but it works out wonderfully because the end result is a wonderfully layered look, packed with large flakies. Flakies can tend to dry a little bit lumpy, so I added one coat of Seche Vite:
Sorry for the picture porn, this flakie can be tricky to photograph with all the colour shifting! Lastly, nothing does a flakie right like a matte top coat, so here's Revlon Matte Top Coat over top of Joe Fresh Twilight:
So, are flakies sooooo 2011, or are you still enamoured with flakies as much as I am? There's much to be said about your first love, am I right?
This is a beautiful colour! And, oh Joe Fresh, how I love your polihes!
ReplyDeleteMaybe it's just me, but I don't feel like flakies are over. I find nail trends stand better to time than clothes does (hehe). I have a few flakies that I have yet to try, I must take them out soon.
I would love to see your take on flakies! (Also because I apparently suck at photographing them and I know I can count on you!) And Joe Fresh polishes are so good - I feel like picking up more, just for nail art. I've got another Animal Crossing one in mind, hehe. It's funny how many times I've taken out my "cheap" polish for nail art - they get used a lot!
DeleteTHIS IS GORGEOUS. Want to go grocery shopping in 2011 and pick it up! I'm usually take it or leave it on matte top coats but this looks awesome. I saw a recent review with a gorgeous lavender from Joe also. I am not buying polish summer (ARGH) but I may have to test out a few bottles in September :)
ReplyDeleteHaha, I think if you slipped on 3 for $10 Joe nail polishes, I wouldn't fault you! I bet you would use them if you wanted to play with nail art, and it's the price for one polish lately. BUT BE GOOD - I AM JUST SAYIN'! ;)
DeleteOMG this IS gorgeous!! I love flakies!
ReplyDeleteMe too! I will never get over them!
DeleteI don't care if flakes are passé or not, I still love 'em! Gorgeous nail polish, I love the effect and the color of it.
ReplyDeleteI just wish we saw some flakies that weren't just orange to green - I wonder why it's so popular and not the blue to green shifters! HMMM! :D :D
DeleteI don't have any flakies in my stash *hangs head in shame* I was eyeing one while at my local nail supply place and A.D.D. on something else and forgot all about it. I'm such a flakie (sorry corny joke but I had to!!!)
ReplyDeleteHaha that is the best pun ever. I definitely allow it!
DeleteI would definitely pick up a flakie if you see them! I am not sure if the trend is over, it's hard to tell but it was going pretty strong from 2011-2012. I know that Cult Nails stopped making Clairvoyant because they couldn't get the supplies for it. FLAKIE SHORTAGE?! And Essie Shine of the Times, which was supposed to be a permanent in their collection was also discontinued!
LOVE! It's just so pretty!!!! I like it without the Matte coat, kind of dulls the shine to it. But great re-find!
ReplyDeleteAlso, it reminds me of the Hunger Games.
Ooooh, the Hunger Games, or the Hunger Games polish? I have a bunch of the polish too so I'll have to post that sooner or later on my blog. It's kind of crazy that at the rate that I post... I will still have enough polish to keep me going until next year.... Yikes! But anyway, I love it glossy! It's just easier to show the shift in matte in photos, I think. (I'm a cheater apparently!)
DeleteI'm still in love with flakies. I remember Gosh's Rainbow being the first polish I HAD TO HAVE OMFG WHERE CAN I GET IT. Haha.
ReplyDeleteAnd I don't know why pretty much all of them are orange/green :c
I've never seen a nail polish like this. Very pretty!
