Digital Nails Galactica Swatch and Review

Digital Nails week continues!!! As some of you know, I'm from Vancouver. (And if you didn't already know that, OH I'LL TELL YOU.) I love my city and one of my favourite shows - Battlestar Galactica - was filmed here! So, I live in Caprica City pretty much - I even get tattooed at one of the filming locations! I guess it should make sense as to how I had such a strong gravitational pull (well, you know what I mean) to Digital Nails Galactica. You can find this polish and other rad polish odes over at Raphaelle's Digital Nails Etsy shop here! Welcome back to Canada, Digital Nails!

(I mean, it shouldn't come as a surprise I own a Battlestar Galactica t-shirt right?!)

Some bottle and macro pr0n... One word: UNF.

From Digital Nails: The name Galactica comes from one of my favorite shows, Battlestar Galactica. If you can't already tell, I am a huge fan of epic sci-fi series, set in where else? Space! I felt that doing a series of polishes based on all of my favorite shows, and their respective star ships/craft would be a really fun way for me to share my love of sci-fi with the world. But fangirling aside, I really think this polish does look like a sky full of twinkling stars, full of mystery and beauty.

At first glance, it should be no surprise this one is a STUNNER. It's a colour shifting glitter topper that settles primarily as a chartreuse gold, but shifts into green and a touch of pale cobalt. Application wise you can get a lot of various coverage here. One coat is plenty, but I am a greedy girl when it comes down to glitter, so I opted for MOAR with two coats. I used one coat of Cult Nails Nevermore, but any one coater black should do the trick. My swatch is surprisingly without top coat because it dries off fairly level!:

For funsies, I always like taming my colour shifters with a coat of matte top coat. I actually do prefer Galactica glossy as it looks super gorgeous in natural light, but my lightbox seems to like the matted version. Here's how it looks with OPI Matte Top Coat:

And because I was mildly curious, I wanted to see if some Essie Penny Talk taping would be fun. It was OK. But I think I definitely prefer to showcase Galactica on her own. Some nail studs might be nice too!

So basically, Digital Nails Galactica nailed it for me. I don't own a polish with this kind of shifting glitter so I feel like it's fairly unique. I am finding that a lot of multicolour multishifting glitters and flakes are dying out in supply so I am glad I could get in on something like this. As a BSG fan, I can gladly say that this polish was such a lovely tribute.

Any fellow BSG fans out there? Do you remember what your BSG binge was like? I remember mine was similar to the skit in Portlandia, only that it was happening in Montreal at the time! What do you think of the multicolour multishifters?

Full disclosure: This sample was provided for an unbiased review.

  1. I love the multishifters to bits. I have Leviathan and Convergent coming from Digital nails. I have Glitter gal and Enchanted polish in the pink to orange shifter family that I apparently buy in every format I come across. I keep hoping for Ninja Polish to bring back their Facets line, though it seems the Digital ones may use the same pigments. My understanding is they are expensive and hard to get.

    1. If you don't have the Ozotic multishifters - I think Digital Nails' Serenity is pretty awesome too. SUCH RAINBOW (well magenta, teal and green!). Ozotic long discontinued their multishifters so the glitters and ingredients might very well be hard to get at this point.

  2. Oh wow this is gorgeous! A black base is definitely the way to go to make this one pop. I love all your props and backgrounds! And your bottle shots are amazing!!

    1. Aw thanks Chantal - I wish I had a bigger lightbox and space to work with but I am glad that I can make due and that you like the pics. :D

  3. Oooh what a unique polish! It's unsettling...like BSG. I still get goosebumps when I discuss the final season with people. I have been wanting to do a marathon again since I haven't rewatched any episodes since the show ended, but I don't know if I can take it. It was so emotional and sad and waiting around for the 7th Cylon to be revealed basically took it out of me. I still am undecided about what Kara Thrace was/what she became. Great show though! I don't think I've ever had a show haunt me like BSG.

    1. Same here! I've definitely due for a rewatch! I am actually working on a re-watch of the X-Files right now and that show is SO INSANE. I can't even handle it. I am so glad that I only vaguely remember the show because my mind is being blown as if it's something brand new.
