It's Cheap Polish Tuesday here where I explore the land of polishes priced at or under (always preferably under) $5 Canadian dollars, all while simultaneously trying to stop worrying about the awful lack of smoothness my car is driving and cost to fix said awful lack of smoothness. (How's that for a run-on?) For serious though, I am really worried about my car and I hope nothing too bad is wrong. Gahhhh. OK. Cheap Polish Tuesday. This is Essence Hello Rosy.
I got Essence Hello Rosy when I was in Ireland at Penneys for €1.79 which comes out to about $2.50 CAD and since there's no tax, it's about the same price as it would be at Shoppers Drug Mart ($1.99 not including tax). Close enough. Essence recently came out with the Sparkle Sand Effect polishes, (there's a couple in Canada's selection at Shoppers Drug Mart) and I have Hello Rosy. It's a slight dusty rose base with red glittery flecks. The application went on alright, but the dry time was... Very slow, as is the norm with these textured polishes. Having tried the OPI Liquid Sands and Zoya Pixie Dusts, I have to say that out of all of them - Essence Sparkly Sand Effect has been my least favourite textured polish. It finishes a bit more flush with the texture. I definitely prefer a sugared finished rather than something that just seems lumpy. Here's my swatch in two coats and its natural finish below:
I think the removal of textured polish is OK but I still used my Julep Party's Over finger caps to remove it. It was just a lot easier than having to scrub on my nails with cotton and remover. Anyhoo, I still have a few more "Sparkle Sand Effect" polishes from Essence so we'll see if I fancy them but in all honesty, I don't like textured polishes much. I may actually give this one away. But I have hoarding tendencies. Anyway.
What do you think of textured polishes? Have they been played out a la shatter polishes from a couple years ago? What do you think of Essence's stab at texture?
Personally I LOVE textured nail polishes. I'm addicted to having different things on all of my nails so texture is yet another possibility. I prefer the glittery textures over the more creamy ones though so this is one I'd probably skip. That being said I'm definitely a collector and this is cheap so I'd probably get it anyway. :P
ReplyDeleteThe price is definitely right on Essence polishes. Seriously who would turn down a high quality $2 polish? Obviously not me! I thought that I wanted more glittery finishes on my textured polishes but I found the Zoya Magical Pixiedusts actually were TOO textured - so textured they pulled on my nylons!
DeleteI'm still a big fan of textured polishes! There's something so weird about them, I always find myself staring at my nails a lot when I'm wearing something textured. While Essence textured polishes aren't the best out there I really, really love this one. Reminds me of a strawberry :D
ReplyDeleteI've yet to try the other ones and honestly, staring at these photos makes me think that they need to grow on you. I definitely appreciate this more looking back, haha!
DeleteI'm not a fan of textured polishes on myself, but I can't resist Essence and I love this colour so I would probably buy it anyway, lol!
ReplyDeleteLOL that's pretty much my rationale! I can't help it if it's Essence!
