I used OPI Alpine White for a base, and with OPI Black Onyx, I dabbed some black blots, purposely making them a bit "brushy". Then I used a dotting tool for the eyes - the bigger end for the whites, and a finer end for the pupils. I was too lazy to put on top coat but I think it would have been beneficial. Ah well.

Anyway I think I might tackle a more elaborate Hayao Miyazaki nail art another day. I thought these soot dudes were pretty simple! Maybe next time I'll put them over a nicer colour than a plain white.
Speaking of Japanese-esque kind of things - if you grew up with the likes of Power Rangers, Macross Plus, Godzilla - go see Pacific Rim. Oh goodness, I LOVED IT. Have you done any nail art that was surprisingly easy?
I love Miyazaki!! Totoro and Spirited Away are my favs from the Miyazaki ones I've seen! I love how your soot dudes came out :D
ReplyDeleteI think next time I might try and do Totoro and the chibi Totoros! I wanted something simple and this was too easy, lol.
Deletethese are ADORABLE! I hope you kept them for a few days at least even without that top coat. When I figured out stamping with plates that worked it was surprisingly easy, but haven't really dabbled much in nail art (yet!)

Haha I didn't keep them on for long - it was sort of a test run. I actually want to do fully themed My Neighbour Toroto nails!!! I figured if I can start with the soot dudes, I'll slowly make my way up to Totoro. :)
DeleteYou should do some nail art! I would start with anything that involves dots - that's where I should have started, lol.
Omg these are just too cuuute!!! My go-to quick nail art is either dots or a glitter gradient.
ReplyDeleteI have not seen Pacific Rim yet, we are saving that one for a basement movie. We just finished our basement with a home theatre, and whenever we invite my brother and his girlfriend to watch a movie they've seen them all. They usually go to the movies every Tuesday for cheap night. So we all agreed to save this one. :)
Glitter gradient is definitely on my list too - very simple and so pretty!
DeleteOh Chantal, you need to se Pacific Rim - it's totally a basement movie but it's totally big screen IMAX 3D movie as well. I've seen it in both 2D and 3D. I always enjoy 2D but it's definitely tolerable in 3D. I got to try out the "VIP" theatre here in Vancouver. It was... weird. It was 19+ and you had to show your ID and there was a lounge outside the theatre just for VIP seats. Weirdest experience but worth it for a Tuesday night. I think the regular price is $27 and on Tuesday it's $15! So crazy.
So adorable! Spirited Away is one of my favorite movies and I love the little soot guys. I hope you enjoyed it while it lasted on your nails.
ReplyDeleteIs it sad that I have not seen My Neighbor Totoro? It's something I really want to see badly. :3
If it makes you feel any better, I was more familiar with the art first before watching My Neighbour Totoro. I only watched it this year! It is just like Winnie the Pooh for Asians - I think that's the best comparison I have. Very touching and cute.
DeleteEeeee so cute, even though the reference flies right over my head
